Let's Go Code! — coding with hands and feet
Long before children type a line of code, Let's Go Code! by Learning Resources teaches them the principle behind it: 20 coloured foam mats (23 × 23 cm each) form a maze on the floor. One child lays out the sequence of commands with the coding cards — forward, turn, jump, hop — and the other child is the "robot" that executes the code step by step. If the robot doesn't reach the goal, the code has to be fixed: that's exactly how programming works, except that here the whole body joins in.
What's in the set
- 20 EVA foam mats in four colours (pink, orange, blue, green), 23 × 23 cm
- 20 coding cards (forward, turn, jump, hop …)
- 2 each of robot, gear, spring, arrow and X punch-out pieces for start, goal, obstacles and actions
- Full-colour guide with an introduction to coding and example mazes
What children learn
Building sequences, giving and following instructions, finding and fixing mistakes ("debugging"), positional and directional language (left, right, forward, back) — and along the way gross motor skills, balance and teamwork. The set is a playful introduction to STEM for preschool and early primary and needs neither power nor a screen.
Who is the set for?
Children from age 5 at home, in preschool and primary school, for PE lessons and birthday parties. Two or more children play best — one codes, one executes, the others check.
Frequently asked questions
How much space does the maze need? 20 mats of 23 cm make e.g. a 4 × 5 grid, around 0.9 × 1.15 m — fits in a child's bedroom.
Is prior knowledge needed? No. The guide explains the cards and the first mazes are deliberately short.
Can the set be extended? Yes — with two sets the mazes get bigger, and your own rules ("turn at the gear") keep the game exciting.
Tips & tricks
- Robot voice: the "robot" may only do what the cards say — otherwise it gets corrected. That's how children learn to give precise instructions.
- Debug round: deliberately build in a mistake and let the children find it.
- Outdoors: the mats work on the lawn too.
Age: 5+. Warning: contains small parts, not for children under 3. Brand: Learning Resources.
