The Colours & Shapes Sensory Pad is a flat, refillable pouch made of clear plastic with 24 brightly coloured plastic shapes inside. You fill it at home with water, gel or glycerine, seal it, and children can push the shapes through the liquid with their fingers, sort them and lay out pictures. The resistance of the filling makes every movement noticeable and builds finger strength along the way.
The set also includes 8 double-sided activity cards with 16 tasks, from simply finding one colour to patterns and counting games. After play the cards slide into the storage pocket on the back, so everything stays together. The flat pad becomes a play surface on the go, in the car, in a waiting room or at a restaurant, with no screen and no noise. Made in China.

Tap water is the easiest option: open the pad, pour in the liquid and seal it again. For a slower, heavier feel, use clear hair gel or glycerine, which makes the shapes drift more gently.
Then push the shapes across the surface with your fingertips. The closure is designed for repeated filling, so check it briefly before first use and keep the pad away from sharp surfaces.
Pushing the shapes trains hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. Sorting by colour and shape brings in first maths vocabulary: same and different, more and fewer, rows and patterns.
The 16 tasks on the 8 cards progress from simple searching to copying rows and patterns. That makes the pad a good fit for preschool children at home, in nursery and kindergarten, and it is also used in occupational and learning therapy. Children who need plenty of movement or become overstimulated quickly benefit from the calm, tactile play.
For a quiet corner, place the filled pad on a child's lap, where the weight works like a small calming cushion. To encourage language, give small instructions and ask for the shape names, for example pushing the blue star to the top or bringing all the hearts together.
To clean it, wipe the outside with a damp cloth and rinse the shapes before filling. The set works well as a present for a birthday, Easter or Christmas. Give it empty with a small bottle of glycerine alongside, and filling it becomes the first thing you do together.
