The hand2mind Sensory Pad is a flat, refillable pouch made of sturdy clear plastic: fill it at home with water, gel or glycerine, seal it — and children from age 3 can push the 24 brightly coloured plastic shapes through the liquid, sort them and lay out pictures. The weight of the filled pad has a pleasantly calming effect, and the resistance of the liquid trains finger strength along the way.
- 1 refillable sensory pad with storage pocket on the back
- 24 coloured shapes (circles, squares, triangles, stars, hearts and more)
- 8 double-sided activity cards with 16 tasks — from "find all the red shapes" to patterns and counting games
Pushing the shapes trains hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills; sorting by colour and shape introduces first maths vocabulary. The activity cards progress from simple searching to copying rows and patterns. After play the cards go into the pocket on the back, so everything stays together and the flat pad becomes a play surface on the go — in the car, at the doctor's or in a restaurant.
Children from age 3 at home, in nursery and preschool, and in occupational and learning therapy. Children who need lots of movement or are easily overstimulated benefit especially from the calm, tactile play — no screen, no noise.
What do I fill the pad with? Tap water is easiest; clear hair gel or glycerine gives a slower, "heavier" feel. A few drops of food colouring are possible but not necessary — the shapes are colourful anyway.
Is the pad leak-proof? Yes, the closure is designed for repeated filling. Check it briefly before first use and avoid sharp surfaces.
Can it be used empty? Yes — the shapes then sit loosely in the pad and can still be sorted; the full effect comes when filled.
- Calm corner: place the filled pad on the child's lap — the weight works like a small calming cushion.
- Language: ask the child to name the shapes ("push the blue star to the top").
- Cleaning: wipe the outside with a damp cloth, rinse the shapes before filling.
