Before children learn to write they need strong, skilful hands. The Helping Hands Fine Motor Tool Set by Learning Resources brings four of the most popular fine motor tools together in one set: the Gator Grabber for the pincer grip, the Handy Scooper, whose movement matches using scissors exactly, the Twisty Dropper for water play and the Squeezy Tweezer, which strengthens hand and finger muscles. All tools are made of durable plastic, brightly coloured and sized for children's hands from age 3.
- 1 Gator Grabber — pincer grip with thumb and index finger
- 1 Handy Scooper — opens and closes like scissors, scoops water, sand or pompoms
- 1 Twisty Dropper — draw up, twist, drip
- 1 Squeezy Tweezer — strengthens hand and fingers when squeezed
Each tool trains a different movement: grabbing, scooping, twisting, squeezing. Together they prepare for holding a pencil and scissors and build the muscles needed for everyday independence — doing up buttons, pulling a zip, using a spoon. Because it all looks like play (sorting pompoms, moving water from bowl to bowl, fishing for beads), children keep at it voluntarily.
Children from age 3 at home, in nursery and preschool, in occupational therapy and for sensory bins and water tables. Also an inexpensive, meaningful little gift.
What age? From 3 years — the tools are big enough to pose no small-parts risk and light enough for three-year-olds.
Are the tools dishwasher-safe? They clean easily by hand with warm water; after water play simply let them dry.
What do you play with? Pompoms, large beads, beans, sand, water with food colouring or ice cubes — anything that can be grabbed, scooped and dripped.
- Sorting game: sort coloured pompoms into cups by colour with the Gator Grabber.
- Water station: two bowls, one with coloured water — transfer with dropper and scooper.
- Strength challenge: who can move the most beads with the Squeezy Tweezer in one minute?
Age: 3+. Brand: Learning Resources.
