This lacing kit is a creative set that lets children turn colourful laces into pictures and patterns. It comes with a yellow foam lacing board with many holes in a grid, 18 laces in different colours, 16 pattern cards, a punching tool and an instruction sheet. The child picks a lace and presses it through the holes with the tool until the chosen shape sits on the board.
The pattern cards show designs such as a house, a butterfly, a palm tree, a cat and nested squares. The result is an activity that supports fine motor skills, creativity and concentration and keeps children busy for hours. The kit is made for children aged 4 and up and works just as well at home as in a nursery or playgroup.
Everything needed to start is in the box, so you do not have to add any material. The instruction sheet explains how it works, and the cards provide the designs.
- 1 yellow foam lacing board with a grid of holes
- 18 laces in different colours
- 16 pattern cards, for example house, butterfly, palm tree, cat and nested squares
- 1 punching tool for pressing the laces in
- 1 instruction sheet
- Recommended for ages 4 and up
- Not suitable for children under 3 years, choking hazard from small parts and strangulation hazard from the laces
The idea is pinch and punch: take a lace, lay it on the board and press it into a hole with the punching tool. Hole by hole the line grows until the shape on the pattern card is complete. The lacing board is made of foam and has many holes in a grid.
The 16 cards supply the designs: a house, a butterfly, a palm tree, a cat or nested squares. The instruction sheet shows how the lacing is done. Children who would rather work without a card can lay out patterns and colourful lines of their own, because creative thinking is as much a part of lacing as matching patterns.
The set is intended for children aged 4 and up. What gets practised along the way: fine motor skills, patterns and matching, and creative thinking. Parents and grandparents get a calm activity for rainy days and for travelling, while nurseries and playgroups gain material that several children can use one after the other.
As a present the lacing kit works for a birthday, for Christmas or as a small something to bring along. It is not suitable for children under 3 years, as it contains small parts and laces.
- Place the pattern card next to the board so the design stays in view.
- Work once from a pattern card and once from your own idea, as the set allows both.
- Put the laces, cards and punching tool back in the box after play so the set stays complete.
- Store the kit out of reach of children under 3 years.
- For a fuller gift, pair the lacing kit with pens or paper for carrying the designs on.
