Children from age 3 slip into the soft puppets, around 25 cm tall, and let them say what they themselves sometimes struggle to put into words. One puppet "tells" how its day went and the children guess the feeling. Or two puppets meet: what does the nervous one say to the excited one? Difficult situations — an argument, a goodbye, a lost cuddly toy — can be acted out with the puppets without the child being the centre of attention. That is exactly what makes hand puppets so valuable in nursery, school and therapy: they create distance and open up conversation at the same time.
