How to sow successfully
- When: Sow indoors from March/April, plant out from May
- Substrate: Nutrient-rich vegetable soil in pot, balcony box or raised bed
- Sow: Reserve a separate zone per variety, sow 1–2 cm deep depending on type
- Moisten: Spray or water evenly with can
- Location: Sunny, wind-protected, south-facing balcony preferred
- Harvest: From July/August depending on variety and weather
Tips for your urban garden
- Larger plants (tomato, aubergine, pepper) need 5–10 litres of pot volume per plant
- Fertilise regularly — organic vegetable fertiliser every 2–3 weeks
- Aubergine and pepper need a lot of warmth — cover with fleece if needed
- Radish and spinach are quick crops — sow several times a year
- Try companion planting: tomato with basil, carrot with onion are classic neighbours
