The Four Tea Herbs

• Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis): Lemony and calming. Perfect as an evening tea. Germinates in 10–14 days at 20 °C. Perennial and low-maintenance.
• Mint (Mentha): The classic for refreshing tea, hot or cold. Germinates in 10–15 days. Grows vigorously and can be harvested regularly.
• Lavender (Lavandula): Fragrant and relaxing. Lavender tea aids sleep. Slower to germinate (14–21 days) but rewards with beautiful blooms and heavenly scent.
• Sage (Salvia officinalis): Savoury and healing. Sage tea is a time-honoured remedy for sore throats. Germinates in 10–21 days. Robust and drought-resistant.

Growing Guide: From Seed to Teacup

1. Design the box: Paint the wooden box with the 15 included acrylic paints. The plastic lining protects the wood from moisture.
2. Prepare soil: Soak the coconut fibre (140 g), mix with soil (350 g) and perlite (10 g). Fill the box with the mixture.
3. Sow: Sow seeds into separate areas following the plant markers. Cover only lightly — herb seeds need light to germinate! Mist with the spray bottle.
4. Germinate: Place on a warm, bright windowsill (18–22 °C). Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
5. Fertilise: After 4–6 weeks, insert the included fertiliser sticks for vigorous growth.
6. Harvest: Once plants reach 15–20 cm, start picking leaves. Never take more than one third at a time.

Drying and Brewing Your Tea

• Harvest in the morning after dew has dried — essential oils are most concentrated then.
• Dry by hanging in small bunches or spreading on a rack. 4–8 days in a warm, airy spot until crispy-dry.
• Store in airtight jars away from light. Keeps 6–12 months.
• Brew: 1–2 teaspoons dried herbs per cup, steep in hot water (80–90 °C) for 5–10 minutes. Or use 5–8 fresh leaves straight from the plant!

Tips & Tricks

• Windowsill with at least 6 hours of light daily. South or west-facing is ideal.
• Regular harvesting promotes bushier, stronger growth.
• Keep mint contained — it spreads aggressively. Best in its own section of the box.
• Lavender needs the most light and warmth. Move outdoors in summer.

Can I really make tea from this?
Yes! All four herbs — lemon balm, mint, lavender and sage — make delicious herbal tea, fresh or dried.

How long until first harvest?
First leaves in 6–8 weeks. Regular harvesting from about 2–3 months.

Indoor or outdoor?
Both! Indoors on a windowsill works year-round. In summer, the herbs can move to the balcony.
