Murdoku 2 Time Travel is a puzzle book for adults with 80 logic puzzles built around mysterious murder cases. The concept combines the elegant simplicity of sudoku with the storytelling of tricky logic problems: instead of placing numbers in an empty grid, you analyse the clues, reconstruct the crime scene and work out where the suspects and the victim were. Every case is a colourfully illustrated grid with rooms, furniture, plants, animals and suspects.
The twist in this second volume is the time machine that catapults you, the investigator, into one era after another, from the first camps of hunters and gatherers to the saloons of the Wild West. The book is published in German, runs to 224 pages and is aimed at sudoku fans, crime readers and anyone who likes history. According to the publisher, it is the sequel 120,000 puzzle fans have been waiting for.
The opening pages explain on page 4 how Murdokus are solved, followed by the prologue on page 8 and advanced tips from page 11. After that you work through the chapters case by case. Within each era the difficulty rises from easy to demanding, so beginners and experienced solvers both find puzzles that suit them.
Individual puzzles come with special rules that create unexpected turns; the Stone Age chapter, for instance, introduces a special rule of its own. The solutions are printed from page 184 at the back of the book.
The 80 cases are spread across five chapters, one per era: the Middle Ages with dungeon and tavern, the Wild West, the Golden Age of Piracy with a ghost ship, the Stone Age and Ancient Egypt with a pyramid. An epilogue closes the journey. The scenes are illustrated in colour and in detail, so each era gets its own visual vocabulary.

Work through a chapter from front to back: because the difficulty rises from easy to demanding within each era, you get used to the logic of that setting before the cases turn genuinely tricky. Before your first case, read the introduction on page 4, which explains the solving principle from the ground up.
When a case comes with a special rule, read the rule in full before the first clue. If you get stuck, turn to the advanced tips from page 11 first and only then to the solutions. As a gift the book works for Christmas, a birthday, a Secret Santa exchange or as a small something to bring along, and with 224 pages it makes substantial holiday reading. Readers who enjoyed the first Murdoku volume will find 80 new cases across five eras here.
How many puzzles does the book contain? 80 logic puzzles across five era chapters, plus a prologue, an epilogue and the solutions section from page 184.
