The sensory tray with colourful rice and wooden bowls is a complete set for sensory play at home, at nursery or in a playgroup. The round silicone bowl holds dyed rice in six colours, and three small wooden bowls plus a wooden scoop come with it. Everything arrives ready prepared, so there is nothing to mix, measure or dye before the first game.
This sensory tray is Montessori-inspired and builds on what children do by themselves: scooping, pouring, sorting and running their hands through the grains. Playing and exploring on their own sharpens their senses and lets their creativity unfold. For parents and grandparents, for nurseries and playgroups and for therapists, the sensory tub is a calm activity.
The complete Soft PlayTray set contains everything you need for the first round of play:
- 1 round silicone sensory bowl, about 37 cm
- Dyed rice in 6 colours: purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, pink
- 3 wooden bowls for pouring, sorting and comparing
- 1 wooden scoop for scooping and tipping
- Durable, food-safe silicone, free from BPA, PVC and phthalates
- Washes off with water and soap, dishwasher-safe
- Set weight about 1.2 kg
- Made in China
The rice goes into the bowl, the wooden bowls sit next to it, and from there your child takes over. The scoop carries rice from one bowl into the next, grains are heaped up, smoothed flat, separated by colour and mixed back together. No instructions and no fixed rules are needed: your child decides how long to play and in which order.
The bowl is not limited to rice. Sand, modelling clay or water can go in just as well, so the same set turns into a different game again and again, even on rainy days at home.
The round sensory bowl measures about 37 cm, which leaves plenty of room for scooping and pouring. The silicone is durable and food-safe as well as free from BPA, PVC and phthalates. The whole set weighs about 1.2 kg and is made in China.
After play, wash the bowl off with water and soap; it is also dishwasher-safe. The dyed rice is play material and not meant to be eaten, so it is best if an adult stays with your child while playing.
Put a cloth or a wipeable blanket under the bowl, then stray grains are easy to gather up and tip back in. An adult is best staying close during play, because the dyed rice is play material and not meant to be eaten.
As a gift the set suits Christmas and birthdays, and it is a good idea when a new sibling arrives and the older child needs an activity of their own. At 1.2 kg it is easy to wrap and to carry along. The rice comes ready dyed, so the set can be used straight after unpacking. Later on, the same bowl carries on with sand or modelling clay.
What is included in the sensory set? A round silicone bowl of about 37 cm, dyed rice in 6 colours, 3 wooden bowls and 1 wooden scoop.
How big is the sensory bowl? It is round and measures about 37 cm; the complete set weighs about 1.2 kg.
How do I clean the bowl? Wash it with water and soap. It is also dishwasher-safe and the silicone is durable.
Can I fill it with something other than rice? Yes, the bowl also works with sand, modelling clay or water.
Does the set make a good gift? Yes, it comes ready prepared and suits Christmas, a birthday or an activity for rainy days.
A-Kids Montessori & Sensory Play from Gaggenau in Germany develops silicone sensory trays and matching fillers such as dyed rice, along with wooden Montessori accessories. The sets arrive ready to use: parents, nurseries and therapists can start straight away without gathering materials themselves. The focus is on perception, fine motor skills and creativity through free play.
