The parts are pre-creased and perforated. You press out a gondola, fold along the creases and slide the flaps into the red cuts. No glue is needed. The manufacturer gives two to five minutes per gondola, so a quiet evening is about right for all 24.

Illustrated folding instructions in German and English are part of the set, and a QR code leads to the maker's assembly video. A cord comes with it too, so the cabins hang in a row like carriages on a lift line above the slope.

As a ski and mountain advent calendar it suits anyone who links December with snow, summits and chairlifts. You can give it folded and filled, or unfolded in its folder so the recipient does the crafting. Within a family, the folding itself makes a good project for the days before 1 December.

The calendar is made in Bavaria and assembled in Kaufbeuren in the Allgäu, in cooperation with the Wertachtal workshops for people with disabilities. The packaging states that it is climate neutral, and the design also comes from the Allgäu.

At 11 cm tall and 6 cm wide, each cabin takes small things best: chocolate, biscuits, hair clips, stickers, vouchers or a folded note with a message. If you are filling for two people, you can split the odd and even numbers between them.

Fold all the gondolas before you start filling, so the building is done in one go. According to the manufacturer the calendar can be used for several years. If you are giving it away and want to leave the crafting to someone else, simply hand over the unopened folder: the window already shows one gondola.
