The DIY Cozy Winter advent calendar works with muted tones instead of red and green: 24 kraft paper bags printed with deer, bear, fir trees, cones and stars, plus golden number stickers and natural wooden pegs. A calendar for anyone who finds the usual Christmas colour scheme too loud.
You fill it yourself – with chocolate, small gifts, vouchers or a note for each day. Since nothing has to be cut or glued, the calendar is ready in well under an hour. The bags measure 14 x 22 cm, stand on their own thanks to the folded base, or hang from a string with the pegs.

Lay out all 24 bags first and spread the fillings – that way the gaps show immediately. Then apply the golden numbers. They stick well to the kraft paper and can be positioned loosely first until the arrangement feels right. Finally fold the top over and add a peg.
Lined up on a sideboard the calendar reads calm and graphic; strung above a chest of drawers it becomes the Christmas decoration for the whole room.
- Place the golden number on the clear part of the bag rather than over the print – the design comes across better that way.
- Distribute the numbers deliberately out of order so the daily hunt becomes part of the ritual.
- Flat fillings such as vouchers, stickers or tea bags keep the bags slim if you intend to hang them.
- Fold the top edge twice before adding the peg – the closure then holds heavier contents too.
