Christmas Train with Light and Sound, 14 Pieces

The locomotive pulls three carriages in Christmas livery: a coal tender lettered Christmas, an open goods wagon with Merry & Bright and a red passenger carriage. Four straight and six curved track pieces complete the closed circuit.

• 1 locomotive with light and sound
• 3 carriages: coal tender, open goods wagon, red passenger carriage
• 4 straight track pieces
• 6 curved track pieces
• Two layouts: circle or oval
• Oval: 133 x 73 cm
• Runs on 2 AA batteries
• Recommended for ages 6 and up

The ten track pieces go together in two ways, as a circle or as an oval. The oval measures 133 x 73 cm and is made to run once around the Christmas tree, with the presents sitting inside or outside the rails. Which of the two layouts works better comes down to the space in the room.

The six curved pieces form the bends, while the four straight ones make up the two long sides of the oval. The locomotive carries the light and the sound and runs on 2 AA batteries. The battery compartment is opened with a screwdriver, so it is worth having one to hand.

The train is recommended for ages 6 and up. At that age children usually lay the track themselves and decide whether the circle or the oval works better in the room. It also suits families who decorate the tree together and want a bit of movement under the branches. As a present it fits Christmas, Advent and St Nicholas Day, and it works well alongside tree decorations or an Advent calendar.

Lay the track before the presents go under the tree, so you have room all the way round and nothing has to be moved later. Check first whether the oval at 133 x 73 cm fits the spot you have in mind. If space is tight, the circle is the second option.

Put the two AA batteries in before Christmas Eve, with the screwdriver for the battery compartment to hand, so everything is ready in the morning. After the holidays, keep all 14 pieces together, ideally with the tree decorations, so that neither a carriage nor a piece of track is missing next year. If you like, set the train up early in Advent: the track is part of the decoration and does not have to wait for Christmas Eve.
