The 12 Plants for My Cat Seed Set by Radis et Capucine contains twelve carefully selected plant varieties designed specifically for cats. Instead of plain cat grass, you get a diverse mix of herbs, grasses and medicinal plants that naturally support your cat's well-being.
The set includes: catnip (Nepeta cataria), valerian, cat germander, thyme, yarrow, mint, lemon balm, ornamental wheat, barley, phalaris, papyrus and carex (sedge). Each plant has its own unique effect – from calming and digestive to playfully stimulating.
In nature, cats instinctively eat grasses and herbs. Plant fibres help them expel hairballs, provide essential vitamins (especially folic acid), and support digestion. Without safe plants available, cats often chew on houseplants – many of which are toxic. This set offers a safe, healthy alternative that satisfies your cat's natural cravings.
- Soil: Use loose, well-draining seed compost. Avoid pre-fertilised potting soil.
- Sowing: Scatter seeds thinly on moist soil and press lightly. Most varieties are light germinators – do not cover with soil.
- Location: Bright spot without direct midday sun. Room temperature 18–22°C.
- Watering: Mist with a spray bottle. Keep moist but not waterlogged.
- Germination: First shoots appear within 7–14 days. Grasses sprout faster (5–7 days), herbs take longer (10–21 days).
- Ready for cats: Once plants reach 5–8 cm, your cat can start nibbling.
- Tip-proof pots: Use wide, heavy containers – cats love knocking things over.
- Rotation: Sow a new batch every 3–4 weeks so fresh greens are always available.
- Cat-height placement: Place pots on the floor or a low shelf, not on a high windowsill.
- Observe preferences: Every cat is different. Some love catnip, others prefer grasses. Experiment to find your cat's favourite.
Are all 12 plants safe for cats?
Yes, all varieties included have been specifically selected for cat households. They are completely non-toxic.
Which plant do cats like most?
Catnip and valerian trigger playful euphoria in most cats. Grasses like wheat and barley are the most popular for chewing.
Can I grow them indoors?
Absolutely. A bright windowsill is all you need – no garden or balcony required.
How long until my cat can use the plants?
Grasses are ready for nibbling after about 2–3 weeks. Herbs like thyme and mint need 4–6 weeks to grow strong enough.
