This small storage box is shaped like a tin of cat food, the kind you might find on the shelf of a very fancy pet food shop. A black cat scowls out from the pink wrapper with its purple spots, alongside the words Cat Food and Seafood Surprise and the 85g marking that is part of the tin design. There is no cat food inside, though: the tin is a funny little box for odds and ends.
It opens with a zip that runs all the way around, finished with a gold-coloured pull. The inside is lined in silver, and the silver lid carries a printed ring pull just like a real tin. The box measures 7 x 9 x 9 cm, weighs 54 g and belongs to the Checkout line by Disaster Designs, a collection built around grocery shop motifs.
The charm of this box lies in the details. The wrapper imitates a label complete with its announced flavour, and the grumpy black cat makes it clear that nothing here is meant too seriously. The ring pull on the lid is printed and stays exactly where it is. On the side sits a small fabric loop with a Disaster label. On a shelf the tin passes for a souvenir from a delicatessen for cats, and only reveals itself as a container for small bits and pieces once you open it.
What goes inside is up to you. Rings, earrings and other pieces of jewellery find a home here, as do coins or hair ties that would otherwise roll around loose in a drawer. Closed, it stays a decorative object that looks like a tin from the pet food aisle even when it is full. It arrives empty, so the contents are entirely your choice.
The box is made of PVC and weighs just 54 g. At 7 x 9 x 9 cm it fits in the palm of your hand and takes up little room on a shelf.

As a present, the tin works wherever cats are a theme: for a birthday, as a Secret Santa gift, as a small something to bring along or under the Christmas tree. It is a nice housewarming idea too. If you want to push the joke a little further, slip some jewellery or hair ties inside before you hand it over.
At home it looks good on a hallway chest of drawers, on a desk next to the keyboard or on a bedside table where jewellery ends up at the end of the day. Among other tins and decorative pieces it only gives itself away at second glance, and that is exactly the fun of it.
Does the box contain cat food? No. The tin is empty and serves as a storage box for small everyday items.
How big is the box? It measures 7 x 9 x 9 cm and weighs 54 g.
What can I keep inside? Jewellery, loose change or hair ties, for example, and other small bits and pieces.
How does the tin open? With the zip that runs all the way around, using the gold-coloured pull. The ring pull on the silver lid is printed only.
Who is the box a good gift for? For cat lovers and anyone who enjoys quirky decor, for a birthday, a housewarming or as a little something to bring along.
