Spiceball Mortar and Pestle with Splash Guard
This product will be released on 28 September 2026
A mortar and pestle set belongs in any kitchen where spices are still crushed by hand. This one consists of a round, ball-shaped ceramic bowl, a white ceramic pestle and a grey silicone splash guard. The guard sits on the bowl as a ring and the pestle passes through the opening in the middle, so together they form one compact sphere. The bowl holds 115 ml, enough for a spice blend or a small batch of paste.
The ceramic mortar is made for herbs, spices, garlic and marinades. You crush whole spices and blend wet or dry ingredients with full control over the texture. If you cook Indian, Asian or Mexican food, this is where your own spice mixes, pastes, dressings and rubs come together. The ceramic bowl stays stable during use according to the manufacturer, and the angled shape makes grinding and mixing easier.
Everything you need for crushing is included. The key details at a glance:
- Ceramic mortar with a 115 ml capacity
- Ceramic pestle in white
- Silicone splash guard in grey
- Angled bowl for easier grinding and mixing
- Suitable for wet and dry ingredients
- Use it with or without the splash guard
- BPA-free according to the manufacturer
- Size 16 x 10.5 cm, weight 551 g
The silicone ring is the clever part of this set. According to the manufacturer it is designed to keep mess contained, so your worktop stays clean while you work on peppercorns, coriander seeds or garlic. The pestle goes through the opening in the middle of the ring while you work.
When you want more room or a clear view of what you are mixing, simply lift the ring off. Without it, the bowl doubles as a small serving dish, for hummus, a dip or a pepper and herb oil you have just put together in it.
With the pestle in place the set stands 16 cm tall and measures 10 cm across; the manufacturer states 16 x 10.5 cm. It weighs 551 g, or 725 g including the packaging.
Bowl and pestle are white ceramic, the guard is grey silicone. According to the manufacturer the set is easy to clean and suitable for the top rack of the dishwasher.
Crush whole spices shortly before you cook, as that brings more aroma to the pan than ready-ground powder from a jar. Start with a small amount and work in stages, which gives you better control over the texture, from coarsely cracked to a fine powder.
For pastes and marinades, add the dry spices first, crush them, then stir in garlic, oil or juice. As a gift the set lands well: add a bag of whole spices or a favourite recipe and it works for Christmas, a birthday, a housewarming or as a Secret Santa present for a foodie.
