The Scrunchems Squishy Buddies Advent Calendar is a toy advent calendar with 24 mini squishies: behind each of the 24 doors sits a small, soft squeezy character – animals and fantasy figures in pastel colours to squeeze, knead and collect. Instead of chocolate there is a new Squishy Buddy every morning, and by Christmas Eve a whole squad has gathered.
24 different Squishy Buddies, each a different design. The product pictures show the crew: bear, penguin, pig, elephant, duck, unicorn, dinosaur, whale, seahorse, panda, rabbit, cat, star and more in pink, light blue, mint, yellow, purple and white. The figures are small, fit in a child's hand and feel soft and smooth – the typical mochi squishy that you slowly squeeze and then watch rise back up. Which design waits behind which number stays a secret until the door is opened.
The box is designed as a gingerbread village: brown houses with icing roofs, fir trees, snow, a bear in a Christmas hat, plus a penguin, pig and elephant as a taste of what is inside. Open the lid and the 24 colourful doors appear inside in mixed order – number 1 is not top left but has to be found. The inside of the lid shows the village once more at full size and includes a bonus search game: "Spot the Squishies" – four characters are hiding in the picture and want to be found.
One door a day, one new buddy a day. The figures can be lined up on the bedside table, tucked into the school bag or kept in hand as a fidget during homework. They also do a fine job as fidgets in the car or the waiting room. Because every figure is different, a collection builds up over time that can be sorted: all the animals, all the sea creatures, all the pink ones. On 24 December the squad is complete – and the gingerbread village with its open doors becomes a stage to play on.
For children from five years who love squishies and would rather have something to play with than sweets during advent.
