POWER Finger Training Set with 3D Climbing Ball

The Boulderball Basic is the 3D climbing ball you hold in one hand and climb with your fingers. According to the manufacturer's product image it comes with the Famous Mountains route cards, 12 cards in total, plus chalk. Added to that are the three training aids and the booklet Your Guide to Effective Finger Training by M.Sc. Dieter Kofler, sports scientist, climber and co-inventor of the Boulderball.

Typical finger trainers only work the flexors. According to the manufacturer this set goes further: the grip ring challenges the flexors, the muscles you grab and hold with. The two stretch bands train the extensors on the back of the hand. The Boulderball covers coordination, because you climb set routes with your fingers, move up, reach across and shift your weight.

The stated aim is muscular balance between both sides and, according to the manufacturer, prevention of typical climbing injuries.

Boulderball comes from Sarnthein in South Tyrol and the set is made in Italy. The brand has been honoured with the European Product Design Award, which shows in the clean shape of the ball. According to the manufacturer the set is robust and durable enough for regular training.

The packaging measures 16 x 13 x 15 cm and weighs 810 g, compact enough to carry to the climbing gym in a rucksack.

Short sessions are easier to keep up than long ones. Five to ten minutes are enough according to the manufacturer, and you will find that much even on a busy day. Because the set is compact, the manufacturer says it works at home, at the office, on the move and at the climbing gym.

Use all three training parts: the grip ring for the flexors, the stretch bands for the extensors and the Boulderball for coordination. The ball is for the routes on the cards, and the 100 ml of liquid chalk is part of the set as well. As a gift, place the booklet on top so the recipient has the training plan to hand straight away.
