Himalayan Salt Lamp with Wooden Base

The lamp arrives complete: the hand-carved salt block on its wooden base, a bulb and a mains cable. All you need to add is a spot within reach of a socket.

• Carved by hand, every piece unique in shape and colour
• Weight between 2 and 3 kg
• Colour from amber to orange
• Wooden base
• Contents: salt block, bulb, mains cable
• Electric table lamp with cable
• Made in Pakistan

The light passes through the salt and picks up its amber to orange tones. The result is a warm, restrained glow rather than bright general lighting. Every block differs in shape and colour, because salt is a natural material.

In the living room, beside the bed or on a desk, this is the kind of light you switch on when the day winds down.

Place the lamp on a hard, flat, stable, non-slip surface that is not sensitive to moisture. Salt draws moisture out of the air in the room, so condensation can form on the surface of the lamp: a thin film of salt water that can leave white marks or damage delicate surfaces. A protective mat under the lamp and good ventilation in the room keep that in check.

It suits anyone who likes a cosy home with warm lighting, whether in the living room, the bedroom or at a desk. As a present it works for a friend, your mum or a colleague, and it is a fine housewarming gift because it brings atmosphere into a new flat straight away. Christmas, a birthday, Mother's Day or simply a winter visit are all good occasions for it.

Put the lamp on a protective mat from the start, especially on wooden furniture, and air the room regularly. Check that the surface is hard, flat, stable and non-slip before you set the salt block down on it.

If you are giving it away, mention that every block is carved by hand and is therefore a one-off piece. And since the weight is between 2 and 3 kg, carry it in a sturdy bag or box.
