Christmas crackers belong on the Christmas dinner table: two people take an end each and pull until the cracker opens and releases what is inside. This set brings six crackers in a folk design to your table, each one 30 cm long and tied with a reusable velvet ribbon. The hand painted style illustrations are inspired by Eastern European folk art and show doves, holly and pomegranates.

Instead of plastic novelties, the crackers hold practical culinary gifts, the sort of thing that is still useful once the dessert plates are cleared. That makes the set a good fit for hosts who want to give their guests something considered rather than a throwaway toy. The design comes from Two Design, the crackers are plastic free, and both product and packaging are recyclable.

The box holds six Christmas crackers, each 30 cm long. They all carry the same folk print, but in two coordinated colourways. That gives variety along the full length of the table while keeping the overall look calm and cohesive. The box weighs 276 g.

Inside the crackers you will find practical culinary gifts rather than the usual plastic trinkets, which is what makes this set work for grown up guests as much as for a family gathering.

The illustrations pick up the visual language of Eastern European folk art: doves, sprigs of holly and pomegranates, drawn in a hand painted style. The result looks less like party kit and more like a row of small, carefully wrapped presents waiting at each place setting.

Because the same print comes in two colourways, you can alternate the six crackers around the table. That adds depth to the setting without making it busy, and the velvet ties give a soft contrast to the printed paper.

The paper is made from recycled paper and the ties are velvet ribbon. The crackers are plastic free, and both product and packaging are recyclable. The ribbons can be untied and kept, for example as gift ribbon or as a loop on the tree. Together with the culinary gifts inside, that means the set carries on being useful well after Christmas Day rather than ending up as a pile of torn paper.

Lay one cracker across each plate or alongside the cutlery, so every guest has their own in front of them. If you like, tie a name card onto the velvet ribbon and let the crackers double as place cards. The two colourways look best when you alternate them down the table. Six crackers cover six place settings, so plan a second box for a larger gathering. And collect the ribbons once the meal is over, before they disappear into the recycling with the paper. The culinary gifts get more attention if you leave the pulling until after the main course.
