Folhousa — Born from Friendship

Folhousa was founded in 2017 by three childhood friends — Baptiste, Benoit and Thomas — in La Fouillouse on the Loire. The brand name comes directly from their village. Their mission: conviviality, friendship and 100% Made in France craftsmanship. The balls are produced in collaboration with Obut, the world's leading pétanque manufacturer since 1955. Production spans three traditional regions: Loire (balls), Jura (cochonnet) and Ardèche (carrying case).

How to Play Pétanque — 3 Simple Steps

1. Throw the cochonnet: Toss the small wooden jack 6 to 10 metres away.
2. Throw your balls: Players take turns throwing their steel balls, aiming to land as close to the cochonnet as possible.
3. Score points: The team with the ball(s) closest to the cochonnet scores. First to 13 points wins!

Play as singles (1v1, 3 balls each), doubles (2v2, 3 balls each) or triples (3v3, 2 balls each). This 3-ball set is perfect for singles and doubles matches.

How many people can play?
2 to 6 players. In singles or doubles, each player uses 3 balls — exactly this set. For triples (3v3), you'll need two sets.

How heavy are the balls?
Each ball weighs approx. 650 g with a diameter of at least 73 mm — the leisure category, ideal for all ages from 12 upwards.

Are these competition-approved?
These are leisure-category balls designed for recreational play. Official FIPJP tournaments require competition boules (650–800 g, 70.5–80 mm diameter).

What surfaces can you play on?
Gravel is classic, but sand, grass, hard-packed earth and park paths all work well. The flatter the surface, the more precise the game.

Can you play pétanque indoors?
Yes, on smooth floors (e.g. a sports hall). Be aware that steel balls can damage delicate surfaces. Outdoors is always more fun!
