An egg basket in chromed steel gives eggs a proper place in the kitchen: they sit in the open and within reach on the worktop instead of disappearing into a half-empty cardboard box. The rounded wire shape is a country-kitchen classic, plain and airy, and built so that one glance tells you how much you have left. The basket is made in Spain.
A carrying handle runs across the top and small feet sit underneath. The handle takes the basket from the shelf to the breakfast table in one movement, while the feet lift the wire slightly off the surface. If you keep hens, the eggs go straight from the nest into the basket with no repacking. And if you simply like cooking, the eggs are where you need them for baking and frying.
The basket is made of chromed steel. The steel wire provides the rounded shape and the stability, and the chrome finish lays a smooth, bright layer over it. According to the manufacturer, the egg basket is robust, long-lasting and easy to clean. The open mesh lets air reach the eggs and shows them off at the same time, which a cardboard box cannot do. The bright finish sits well next to stainless steel pans and chrome taps.

Instead of fetching the box each time, you reach straight into the basket, and when you write your shopping list you can see at a glance whether eggs belong on it. For breakfast or brunch you carry the basket to the middle of the table by its handle and everyone helps themselves. Dyed Easter eggs look better in bright wire than in a bowl, because the mesh holds them while hiding almost nothing.
The basket belongs in kitchens where people cook and bake: keen home cooks keep eggs within arm's reach, country-style kitchens gain a detail that works with wood, enamel and open shelving, and anyone keeping hens gets a collecting basket for the walk from the coop to the kitchen. Fill it with dyed eggs at Easter, pair it with a few kitchen tools as a housewarming gift, or bring it to a Sunday brunch and leave it with the host.
If you are giving it away, do not hand it over empty: a few eggs from a farm shop, chocolate eggs or a folded tea towel inside turn a kitchen helper into a finished gift. After a round of Easter dyeing the smooth surface works in your favour, since the manufacturer describes the chromed steel as easy to clean.
