This Christmas bauble is a sitting dairy cow made of glass: black and white spotted, with a red neckerchief round its neck and a silver milk can held in front. Green blades of grass stand beside her, as if she had just settled down in the pasture. A hanging cord is part of the ornament, so the figure goes straight onto a branch.
At 8 x 7 x 11 cm this cow Christmas ornament is big enough to hold its own among the branches. It comes from the Sass & Belle Christmas collection and speaks to anyone with a link to farming, dairy work or alpine life who would rather dress the tree with characters than with plain round baubles.
The cow sits upright with the milk can in front of her, and the red neckerchief stands out against the spotted coat. The black and white of the coat, the red of the scarf and the silver shine of the can give the ornament clear accents, while the green grass brings a piece of pasture onto the tree. Near a string of lights, the glass surface picks the light up and passes it on.
The figure is made of 100% glass. Glass is fragile: this is a tree ornament rather than a toy, so it is better placed higher up, out of reach of small children and pets. At 11 cm tall and 8 cm long it needs a spot of its own on the tree where it can hang freely.

This cow suits farming families, dairy farmers, anyone with a connection to the mountain pastures and cow lovers who want their favourite animal around in December too. It works as a small something to bring along on the first Sunday of Advent, as a Secret Santa gift in the office or as an extra tied to a bottle of wine when you visit someone during Advent. On the tree in a farm shop or a farmhouse parlour the motif gets noticed as well.
Close to a string of lights the shine of the glass comes out more clearly. Hang the cow so that she swings freely and does not knock against other glass pieces. As a gift she can be tied to the ribbon of a parcel, working as both a tag and a surprise.
Thanks to the hanging cord the figure also finds a place away from the tree: on a wreath of branches, on a window hook or on a fir sprig in a vase. If you collect animals for your tree, you can build up a small farmyard among the lights over the years.
What is the ornament made of? The figure is made of 100% glass.
How big is the cow? She measures 8 x 7 x 11 cm (L x W x H), so she is about as tall as a coffee cup.
Is a hanging cord included? Yes, the cow has a hanging cord and goes onto the branch without any extras.
What does the ornament show? A sitting, black and white spotted dairy cow with a red neckerchief and a silver milk can, with green blades of grass beside her.
Is it suitable for children? It is a glass tree ornament rather than a toy, so hang it out of reach of small children.
