Christmas Napkins with Animals in Red Pointed Hats

The scattered print spreads the figures loosely over the whole surface. Dog, pig, cat and hare are drawn as small characters and all wear a red pointed hat. Between them sit red hearts, small red and white Danish flags and gold-coloured dots that give the pattern a festive shimmer.

The base colour is a warm beige that reads as cream white and takes the hardness out of the strong red. Red and beige go easily with fir green, wood and plain white crockery, so you will not spend long matching the napkins to the rest of your table. The little Danish flags are a classic detail of Nordic festive decoration and give the print its northern character.

Each napkin measures 33 x 33 cm and is made of three layers of paper. That is the classic napkin size for beside the plate, equally usable for a weekday lunch and for the festive table. The paper is FSC certified, the 20 napkins come in a clear film bag (OPP) and the whole pack weighs 110 g. The napkins are made in China.

The napkins work wherever people eat in December: coffee and gingerbread during Advent, Christmas dinner with the family, brunch over the holidays or the craft table where children paint cards. Because the motif is childlike without being childish, it also looks right on a table with no children at it. As a small gift to bring along the pack is genuinely useful, since anyone hosting over the holidays needs napkins anyway.

Fold the napkins into a triangle and lay them across the plate, or roll one up beside the cutlery. For a buffet, stack them slightly offset so guests can pick up a single napkin easily. Tied with red yarn or a sprig of fir, one napkin becomes a small highlight on the place setting.

The pattern is not tied to a single day, so you can use the pack right through Advent, from the first Advent coffee to Christmas dinner. With children at the table, let each of them choose the napkin with their favourite animal on it.
