A wide cone of light fans out from the nose of the rocket and lays a galaxy across the ceiling — not a pattern of dots but a coherent image with colour gradients. Six motifs are available: spiral galaxy, sun, planetary landscape and several nebulae in blue, violet and red.

The effect is strongest when the room is dark and the ceiling light and smooth. With sloping roofs, dark ceilings or wood panelling the image gets weaker. The rocket therefore works best on a chest of drawers roughly level with the middle of the bed, one to two metres below the ceiling.

The round window in the rocket body is an LED dot matrix that can be switched. Alongside the time there are five images: a green alien head, a shooting star, a winking face, an explosion and a rocket. That sounds like a gimmick but solves a practical problem — anyone who does not want to see the clock at night simply switches to an image instead of covering the device.

Children who cannot yet read clock hands often already understand a digital display.
