Bring the scent of Provence to your balcony! These lavender seeds come directly from the south of France and bring the aroma of endless lavender fields into your garden. Lavandula angustifolia is the true, hardy Provence lavender — robust, undemanding, and so intensely fragrant that you'll forget you're not on holiday.
Growing Guide: How to Sow
- Stratification (optional but recommended): Place seeds in the fridge for 2 weeks (in moist sand or kitchen paper). This cold treatment simulates winter and significantly improves germination rates.
- Sowing: Lavender is a light germinator — scatter seeds on the surface, press lightly, but do not cover.
- Moisture: Keep evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water from below or use a spray bottle.
- Temperature: 18–22 °C is ideal. Bright location without direct sun.
- Germination: First seedlings appear after 14–28 days. Germination is uneven — some seeds take a bit longer.
- Timing: Start indoors in March–April, transplant outdoors from May.
Care Tips
- Sun: Full sun — the more the better. Lavender loves hot, dry spots.
- Soil: Well-drained and lean. Mix in sand or gravel — lavender hates wet feet.
- Watering: Once established, lavender is extremely drought-tolerant. Less is more.
- Hardiness: True lavender withstands down to -15 °C — perfect for Swiss gardens and balconies!
- Harvesting: Cut flower stems just before full bloom for the most intense fragrance. Hang upside down to dry for sachets.
Culinary Uses
This lavender variety is edible! Use the flowers for lavender sugar, Herbes de Provence, baking, syrup, or tea infusions. A recipe idea is included.
