The Capybara to Grow by Radis et Capucine is a hand-painted terracotta figure shaped like the internet's favourite animal – the capybara. Sprinkle the included chia seeds on its back, keep it moist, and within days a lush green "fur" sprouts. The result: a chill capybara with a growing grass hairdo that brightens any desk or windowsill.
The concept is similar to chia pets – but this one is a capybara, which makes everything better. The figure can be replanted endlessly and makes a brilliant gift for animal and plant lovers alike.
Why a Capybara?
Capybaras are the world's largest living rodents, native to South America. They're famous for their incredible calmness – happily coexisting with crocodiles, birds and even cats. This zen energy has made them an internet sensation, and this figure captures it perfectly: you do almost nothing, yet something beautiful happens.
How to Grow Your Capybara's Fur
- Soak: Place the terracotta figure in a bowl of water for 20–30 minutes to absorb moisture.
- Apply seeds: Spread chia seeds evenly over the back and head. Seeds stick to the wet surface.
- Keep moist: Place on a saucer and mist 1–2 times daily. Seeds must not dry out during the first 3 days.
- Wait: First green sprouts appear after 3–5 days. Full, dense fur after 7–10 days.
- Trim: When the "fur" gets too long, simply cut it back with scissors. It regrows!
Tips for Best Results
- Location: Bright indirect light – not direct sunlight.
- Not too wet: Moist is good, standing water is not. Drain excess from the saucer.
- Reusable: Brush off old sprouts, re-soak, apply new seeds. Included seeds last several rounds.
- Edible sprouts: The young chia sprouts are edible – great on salads, bread or yoghurt. Rich in omega-3 and fibre.
