The Vampire Blood candle is a large black pillar candle with a bleeding wax effect. Light the wick and the red wax softens, spills over the rim and runs down the sides in thick trails until the black body is streaked with red. Over the course of an evening a plain candle turns into a piece of decoration that shapes itself.
This Halloween candle is made for people who like things dark: gothic and vampire fans, hosts of horror parties and murder mystery dinners, and anyone who wants a centrepiece with a story. It comes in a red box printed with the words Vampire Blood Candle, so it works as a present straight away, with no wrapping needed. The wax is unscented, which keeps the air clear at the dinner table. Made in China.
The effect comes from two colours of wax working together: the body is black, while the wax that melts and spills over the rim as it burns is red. The longer the candle burns, the more red trails travel down across the black surface.
You decide how far it goes. A short burn leaves a few drops; a long evening leaves the whole column marked. Total burn time is around 7 hours, which you can use up in one sitting or spread across several nights.
The candle stands 15.2 cm tall on a 7.5 x 7.5 cm base and draws the eye the moment it is on the table. At 620 g it holds a solid amount of wax, which you notice as soon as you pick it up. The material is unscented paraffin wax. The box measures 16 x 8 x 8 cm and is cut closely around the candle.

At Halloween the candle takes the middle of the table, among pumpkins, dark napkins and candlesticks. At a murder mystery dinner it supplies the kind of light the story needs, and gives guests something to watch between courses. At a gothic party it makes a statement that needs no further props.
As a birthday present it lands well with anyone who collects vampire films or keeps their home dark all year round. The red box with the Vampire Blood Candle name delivers the joke the moment it is unwrapped.
Stand the candle on an ornate candle holder, as the manufacturer suggests: the wax then runs freely down the sides and stays on show. A holder is not included.
- Protect the surface before lighting, as the red wax drips
- A plate, metal dish or tray will catch the drops
- Never leave a lit candle unattended
