The corn prep peeler is a compact kitchen tool built for one job: taking kernels off the cob. The serrated blade runs quickly along the cob, lifts the kernels with little waste and leaves the bare cob behind. It replaces cutting kernels off with a large knife, where the cob tends to roll away.
The tool is shaped as a Y-peeler. The compact Y-shape suits the round form of the cob, gives a wider point of contact where the blade meets the cob and encourages a natural top-to-bottom peeling motion. OXO took the features of its classic peeler and put them into a new, compact form. For anyone making corn salad, salsa or a side dish for the barbecue during corn season, that is a small tool with a clear purpose.
You set the blade at the top of the cob and pull it down in one stroke. The kernels come away, the cob stays in one piece. Because the Y-shape is easy to manoeuvre, it works with every grip, held from above or from the side. You work your way round the cob strip by strip.
That is the starting point for everything that tastes better with loose kernels: corn salad, a salsa with coriander, tomatoes and peppers, a dip or a side next to the grill. The peeler does it quickly and safely because the blade is guided along the cob.
The blade is sharp Japanese stainless steel, rustproof and serrated. The handle is ergonomically shaped and wide enough for a secure hold, with a soft, non-slip Santoprene grip zone that stays comfortable during longer jobs. There is a hanging hole in the handle.
