This 3D wooden model kit builds a flying fantasy sailing ship that appears to hover on a curved wooden stand. The sails are made of specialty paper in purple and violet with fine ornaments, while the hull is dark turquoise with pale wood details. Mysterious abstract symbols from laser micro-engraving run across the decks, bulkheads and masts. The packaging carries the wording Corsair, Lord of Mysteries: Future and 3D Wooden & paper puzzle, and the ship itself is called Future.

With 518 pre-cut parts and around 12 hours of building time, this is a 3D wooden ship puzzle for adults and practised modellers who want a large project. Wood and paper parts lock together with mortise and tenon joints: according to the manufacturer more than 95 % of the paper parts need no glue, only the small yellow pieces on the deck are glued. Glue is not part of the set, so you need to supply it.

The box holds everything for the model apart from the glue. All parts come pre-cut, so you release them from the boards and sheets and work through the 518 parts with the colour instructions.

  • Linden wood boards of 2 mm with pre-cut parts
  • Sheets of specialty paper
  • Adhesive tape
  • Detailed colour building instructions
  • Assembled size: 410 x 168 x 266 mm, around 41 x 16.8 x 26.6 cm
  • Building time: about 12 hours
  • Glue not included

The kit combines 2 mm linden wood with specialty paper. The sails are specialty paper in purple and violet with ornaments, and the curved stand is wooden. Laser micro-engraving places fine abstract symbols on decks, bulkheads and masts that only come into their own from close up.

The model is held together by mortise and tenon joints. Only around 5 % of the parts need glue, namely the small yellow pieces on the deck. There is no cutting work for you, because every part is pre-cut.

The fantasy ship model is aimed at adult modellers and puzzle fans who want a demanding project spread over several evenings, and at anyone who likes fantasy, steampunk and airships. Fans of the fantasy saga Lord of Mysteries, whose name appears on the packaging, will recognise the theme.

As a gift it fits a birthday, Christmas or Father's Day, and it fills long autumn and winter evenings. Because of the many small parts it is not for children under three.

Plan the build in stages: around 12 hours divides comfortably over three or four evenings rather than one long session. Keep the detailed colour instructions within reach while you work.

Have a tube of glue ready before you start, as it is not in the set and is needed only for the small yellow pieces on the deck. If you are giving the kit away, add the glue to the parcel so the build can start straight away. The adhesive tape, by contrast, is already included.

What is included in the kit? Linden wood boards with pre-cut parts, sheets of specialty paper, adhesive tape and detailed colour building instructions. Glue is not included.

How long does the build take? The manufacturer states around 12 hours for the 518 parts. The work divides easily over several evenings.

How big is the finished model? Assembled it measures 410 x 168 x 266 mm, which is roughly 41 x 16.8 x 26.6 cm.

Do I need glue? Yes, for around 5 % of the parts, the small yellow pieces on the deck. More than 95 % of the paper parts simply slot together, according to the manufacturer.

Does it make a good gift? For fantasy and model-making fans, yes: 518 parts and about 12 hours of building give the recipient a long project.
